TeaP Workshop on Bayesian Statistics

Report: Bayesian Statistics Workshop at TeaP 2025

On March 9, 2025, our team at the Thomas Bayes Institute hosted a short workshop on Bayesian Statistics at the TeaP 2025 in Frankfurt, Germany. We were very pleased with the active participation and how well the session was received by the attendees.

The workshop addressed the ongoing reliance on traditional null hypothesis significance testing. While no longer state-of-the-art, many empirical researchers still default to it because the switch to modern methods can seem daunting. Throughout the session, we discussed why Bayesian methods are, in fact, often more intuitive (and much more fun, though perhaps less suited for simply showing off).

Participants engaged in hands-on exercises with theoretical concepts to deepen their understanding and worked practically on conducting Bayesian analyses efficiently. We also explored possible choices for priors and the decision-making processes behind them. A key and highly practical focus of the workshop was discussing actionable strategies for smoothly transitioning project teams, labs, or entire departments to modern Bayesian methods without disrupting ongoing workflows.

We would like to thank all the TeaP participants who joined us for this successful session.
